Game #2 Recap - Orioles vs.Cville Reds

This was a home game with the visiting Craigsville Reds. The Orioles started rookie Jacob Grose on the mound who pitched a great game, the C-Reds had only one (1) hit in the first inning which was the very first batter who also managed to score. After that, the 2nd batter was put out on a fielder choice then the 3rd and 4th batters where struck out. The Orioles first at bat was very productive. The bird boys scored five (5) runs right off and never looked back. I could have made a key coaching error as I had the boys hit the field after scoring the five (5) run limit, but that limit only applies to league games and this was an interleague game with the Eastern Division. The first five (5) batters reached base and scored, Lead off hitter Joe Yeager with a base hit, D LaVancher with a walk, and three (3) consecutive base hits by Jason Bradford, B. Rapp and Matt Bennett. Jacob Grose also had a walk in the inning and we came in with him left on base with two outs. After one inning the birds were up 5 -1.

The second inning the Orioles faced seven C-Red sluggers of which three (3) got on with hits and one walk, the defense clamped down and was able to hold the C-Reds to only two (2) runs. The boys came back to the plate and faltered. Only four (4) birds came to the plate, Casey Jones managed to make it to third after sacraficing his body for a free base ride. After two complete innings the Orioles lead 5 - 3.

The C- Reds would send five (5) batters to the plate in the third as the defense kept them in check, one (1)run would score this inning on one (1) hit and one (1) walk. The Orioles returned to tha plate and sent a total of eight (8) batters to the plate. This inning would prove to be a two (2) out ralley inning. M. Bennett would reach on a walk then Matt Moore and Jacob Grose both hit for singles. These three guys would all score. Logan cole would be left at third after he reached on a walk. The Orioles after three (3) complete inning now lead 8 - 4. The C-Reds would now face Jacob Grose and Billy Rapp's wrath as in the fourth and fifth innings would see only eight (8) batters came to the plate. six (6) of these batters would hear the umpire utter those dreadful words Strike 3. The Orioles would continue to build their lead having nine (9) batters come to the plate in the fourth and five (5) batters in the fifth. Jones, Yeager and Bradford would reach on walks, Rapp Moore and Grose would hit the ball for consecutive singles and add four (4) more runs. The fifth would see one (1) more run cross the plate as Dorsey and Wynne reach on free passes and then Joe Yeager hits the ball into left filed to move them. After five (5) complete innings the Orioles would have a 13 - 4 advantage. The C- reds would send their final six (6) batter to the plate and get a couple of singles and few free passes to score three (3) runs. The final score would be Orioles 13 - C-Reds 7. The orioles tallied Eleven (11) hits and received eight (8) free passes to base. The Orioles would surrender only seven (7) hits and six (6) walks for the game .
