Game #8 - Orioles vs Mets - 5/22/2008
The two (2) top teams of the Summersville Little League squared off in their second meeting of the year.  The Orioles batted first and Joey Yeager and Matt Bennett Battled the Mets Pitcher for walks, Billy Rapp came up and drove the ball back at the pitcher who knocked it down but could not make a play. Dustin LaVancher would hit a gapper between 1st and 2nd and the Orioles would go on and score a total of four (4) for the inning. The bird defense featured  Jason Bradford on the hill for the Orioles and worked the first two (2) batters for the Mets -  The first batter hit a grounder to second baseman Jacob Grose who made the play at first. The second batter hit a sharp shot to Shortstop Billy Rapp who hoovered it and made the throw to Logan Cole at first. The Mets would go on and score one (1) run. After One (1) inning the Orioles lead 4 - 1.

The second inning had the birds taking four (4) bases as Jonathon Dorsey, Casey Jones, Matt Bennett and Billy Rapp got free passes after battling the Mets pitching. Jason Bradford hit hard shot down the first base line which was knocked down and retrieved to make the final out. Dorsey scored in the inning. The Mets came in and roughed up the birds pitching as Jason Bradford and Jacob Grose worked the hill. The Mets had two (2) hits and battled for several free passes and took their first lead of the game with a five run inning. 6 - 5.

The birds boy come in a little disheartened but after a shot of bubble gum and tootsie rolls, It was back on. The first five batters Jacob Grose, Dustin LaVancher, Logan Cole, Matt Moore and Caleb Wynne would get base hits shaking up the Mets ace pitching staff who would then walk Dorsey, Jones and Yeager. The birds would return the flavor with a five (5) run inning. A defensive stand was now needed and thats what would happen as the Mets only sent four batter to the plate. Rapp hoovered up his second ball of the game and made a good through to first. Bennet would catch blooper at thrid base and Grose would put an end to this inning with a strike out. The Mets would score one (1) run. The Birds retake the lead 10 - 6 after three innings.

The birds back at bat in the top of the fourth showed that the bats remained hot from the third inning as the first four batter reached base as Bennett lead off with a walk and then three consecutive hits by Rapp, then Bradford and Grose, all four boys score as Matt Moore get a hit to move the runners. The Orioles end the inning with a 14-7 lead. The Mets would not go down quite as they came out and scored five (5) runs but in the end the outcome had already been written.

The game had reached the two (2) hour limit and with four (4) complete innings the final score would Be Orioles 14 - Mets 12. The Birds had Eleven (11) hits with twelve (12) walks in the game and held the Mets to five (5) hits and eleven (11) walks. the end the first inning made the difference in the ball game.
